India's capital Awakens to Dangerous Haze Following Festival of Lights
On Tuesday morning inhabitants of the planet's dirtiest urban center were faced with exposed to dangerously toxic air that registered in the "severe" range.

Multiple areas of Delhi recorded an AQI exceeding 500, which translates to ten times the safe limit recommended by the WHO.
Particular areas, concentrations of dangerous airborne particles hit highs of 1,800, equating to 15 to 20 times higher than acceptable limits.
Fireworks Prohibition and Current Developments
Since 2020, officials had maintained a comprehensive restriction on the purchase and ignition of firecrackers during Diwali due to their major role to the deadly haze that blankets the city as winter approaches.
Yet recently, the recently formed city government appealed to the judicial authority to propose a easing of the restrictions.

The economic and health impact on the nearly 33 million people living in the capital region is enormous, according to numerous investigations.
The contaminated air leads to elevated rates of neurological, cardiovascular and lung diseases, and can potentially cause malignancies.
Environmental contamination is projected to be causing 10,000 early fatalities each year in the city.
