Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
